In this blog I examine the contribution of three Norwegian men to the exploration of the polar regions and the Arctic in particular. Whilst going on dangerous and challenging into unexplored territory they both in different ways advanced scientific knowledge, discovery and social change. Each were legends in their time. Nansen being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Amundsen bagging the polar prizes of the South Pole and the North Pole and Sverdrup for his detailed cartography and expeditionary Arctic leadership .
